
Advancing Academic Libraries Through Innovation and Leadership
I am a Librarian and Professor of Library and Information Management at Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology, Patiala, with over 24 years of experience in library administration, information management, and academic leadership. I hold a PhD in Library and Information Science from Osmania University and qualified for the UGC-NET in 2003, along with a master’s degree in Anthropology from the University of Delhi, along with Bachelor’s, Master’s, and M.Phil. qualifications in Library and Information Science. My professional achievements have earned national and international recognition. In 2013, I was awarded the prestigious Commonwealth Professional Fellowship by the British Council, UK, and completed my fellowship at the University of East London. I was also selected for the ICSSR–NRCT Bilateral Exchange of Scholars Programme at Thammasat University, Thailand. More recently, I have received the SATKAL National Librarian Award 2023 and the MANLIBNET Best Librarian Award 2024. Contributions to transforming academic libraries through technology include library automation systems, RFID-based services, institutional repositories, customised digital library platforms, and Ask-a-Librarian services, helping libraries evolve into modern digital knowledge centres.
The scholarly accomplishment includes contributions to scholarly publications, including around 72 research papers in reputed national and international journals and conference proceedings. I have also edited five academic books, making significant contributions to the growth of Library and Information Science. My contribution combines library management and academic work, reflecting my expertise, professional leadership, and technological innovation.
