Director of the Library, Georgetown University Qatar
Hi, I am Jamillah Scott-Branch, and I serve as the Director of the Library at Georgetown University in Qatar (GU-Q), where I lead strategic initiatives, manage staff and resources, and champion access to information in a global academic setting. My career working in libraries spans various roles and institutions, showcasing a progression of responsibilities and expertise. Before joining GU-Q, I served as the Assistant Director of Library Services at the James E. Shepard Memorial Library at North Carolina Central University (NCCU). In this role, I oversaw research and instructional services, interlibrary loan, and government documents, and supervised the Music Library and the Curriculum Materials Center Library. My experience encompasses strategic planning, staff and budget management, recruitment, hiring, and performance management. Joining the 2026 Mortenson Center Associates Program is a milestone I’m proud of, and I look forward to the shared learning and connections this cohort will bring.
Learning Goals
- Goal 1: Further develop the ability to identify, collect, and communicate meaningful data about our library’s services and programs to craft compelling narratives for key stakeholders.
- Goal 2: Build a user-centered service framework by exploring how leading academic libraries in the U.S. assess and respond to user needs, and identify at least two user-centered practices or service models that could be adapted at my library.
- Goal 3: Develop a strategic roadmap for AI and emerging technologies and gain a grounded understanding of how academic libraries are integrating AI tools and emerging technologies into their services, collections, and workflows. I hope to leave with a practical framework for evaluating and piloting at least one technology initiative at my home institution.
