Asha O. H. Moncrieffe

Asha O. H. Moncrieffe, Law Librarian, Hugh Wooding Law School

My name is Asha Moncrieffe, Jamaican by birth and Caribbean at heart. I currently serve as Law Librarian at the Hugh Wooding Law School in Trinidad and Tobago. I have worked in libraries for over a decade, with experience spanning academic, court, public, and school libraries. Since 2016, my primary focus has been law librarianship, a field that allows me to combine my passion for information services with supporting legal education and research.

I am an active member of the Caribbean Association of Law Libraries (CARALL) and the International Association of Law Libraries (IALL). I previously served as Secretary of CARALL, an experience that strengthened my leadership skills and deepened my appreciation for regional collaboration and professional service. My professional interests include leadership development, user-centered library services, legal information access, and innovation within Caribbean libraries.

Over the years, I have presented at regional and international conferences on topics including leadership and post-COVID Caribbean law librarianship. In 2023, I was awarded the AALL FCIL-SIS Schaffer Grant, which provided an opportunity to engage with colleagues from around the world and share perspectives on librarianship in the Caribbean. I have also contributed to the profession through committee service, conference presentations, and peer review work for the International Journal of Legal Information.

By participating in this programme:

  • I hope to develop a stronger understanding of how data can be used to support strategic decision-making and improve library services.
  • I hope to better understand how user needs experiences can be incorporated into the planning and delivery of meaningful and impactful services.
  • I want to learn more effective ways to demonstrate and communicate the value of the library to management and other stakeholders.
  • I want to discover new ideas, tools, and practical approaches that can enhance user engagement, improve service delivery, and support innovation within my library especially with the rise of AI.
  • I want to strengthen my leadership and management skills and expand my professional network.

I will be sharing weekly reflections throughout this journey as I contemplate the topics covered, the conversations had, the thoughts shared and the insights gained.

See you in the next post!
