Mary Ngure

About me

Greetings!

My name is Mary Ngure from Kenya.

I work at The International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (icipe) as the Manager, Information Resource Centre (IRC). With 15 years of experience in digital libraries, scholarly communication, and knowledge management, I support among others scholarly communication and information literacy initiatives at the Centre. In addition, I support capacity building for the Regional Scholarship and Innovation Fund (Rsif) 15 African Host Universities’ libraries through partnership in information literacy training, digital repository management, enhanced access to scholarly resources, and knowledge sharing initiatives.

Previously, I worked at United States International University – Africa managing library systems and archives; and at Aga Khan University as Coordinator, Digital Media services.

I hold an MSc in Management and Information Systems from the University of Manchester, a BSc in Computer Science from Kenyatta University, and am currently pursuing a PhD in Information Systems focused on AI and knowledge discovery in scientific research.

My professional interests include digital libraries, open science, knowledge management, research impact assessment, and the application of AI in research.

Key Learning Goals

This year’s theme ‘Poised for Impact: Data, User, Strategy-Driven Libraries’ aligns strongly with my professional interests, and I look forward to learning and gaining practical insights from the diverse sessions and activities. My key learning goals are to:

  1. Strengthen my leadership and strategic communication skills to effectively lead teams, drive innovation, and align information services with institutional goals.
  2. Enhance my skills in impact assessment and communication – learn best approaches for measuring, visualizing, and storytelling to effectively demonstrate and communicate institutional research impact.
  3. Expand my international professional network for partnerships and collaborative initiatives.
