This library is more than just shelves of books, it’s a buzzing hub of creativity, community, and innovation. We had the pleasure of touring the Westerville Public Library, guided by Kristin Michel.

With a service area that includes all of Westerville, parts of Columbus, and portions of Delaware County, the Westerville Public Library boasts an impressive collection: over 1.2 million books and eBooks, more than 237,000 audiobooks and eAudiobooks, 71,000 movies, 416,000 music albums, 12,000 magazines and newspapers, and over 200 art prints. The library’s Homework Help Center is open Monday through Thursday from 4 to 7 PM in the kids’ area, where library staff are ready to assist elementary and middle school students.
Aside from that, the library offers a space for tech and DIY creativity the Innovation Lab is a true playground. Imagine access to 3D printing, advanced design software, digital creation stations, and even a recording studio. There’s also a Seed Library, where patrons can check out seeds, plant them, and learn. That’s sustainable learning in action.
The Westerville library is part of the Central Library Consortium, a network of 18 libraries across Central Ohio that share resources while staying independently managed. They’re also leading the way with RFID technology for efficient sorting and inventory with free apps like Libby, Kanopy Plus, PressReader, Hoopla Digital, and even a virtual tour.
