Reflections on Visiting OCLC Headquarters, Dublin, Ohio USA

Our visit to OCLC Headquarters in Dublin, Ohio, USA was an eye-opening experience into the powerful global work being done behind the scenes to support libraries and knowledge institutions worldwide. We were warmly welcomed by Karen Hinton, Director of Member Relations, who gave us an insightful briefing on the evolution of OCLC’s governance and global reach. Key topics included:
- The evolution of OCLC Councils
- Participation in the ALA Annual Conference and Exhibition
- The structure and function of the OCLC Leaders Council
- Leadership pathways and selection processes
These conversations highlighted the strong emphasis on collaboration, democratic representation, and the importance of leadership development in the library world.
Data Center & Library Tours
Our tour of the OCLC Data Center and Service Operations Center was guided by Myke Welch and Joe Fults, who showcased the robust, best-in-class technology infrastructure that underpins OCLC’s global library services.

We also had the opportunity to tour the OCLC Library, Archive, and Museum, led by Kem Lang. It was inspiring to see how the organization preserves its rich history while continuing to innovate in service of libraries worldwide.

Research in Action: OCLC Research Reports
A highlight of the visit was a session on OCLC Research Reports, presented by Nancy Lensenmayer. This segment offered a glimpse into the data-driven research that informs new strategies and solutions for libraries.
“Together we make breakthroughs possible.”
