Week 2: Human design thinking to create more engaged library

It’s been a week full of activities. Tired but excited!

This week, I highlighted three things; human design thinking, libraries for sustainable development and library impacts to society.

In line with the theme “Library Unbound: Open, Inclusive and Engage”, these three topics contribute to more in-depth discussion on how creating an inclusive library. (1) human design thinking should be adopted and used in designing a more inclusive and engaged library services. Having a better understanding of its users helps libraries provide the right services for its patrons. The human design thinking approach, can be done through five steps; understand; synthesize, ideate, prototype, and implement.

(2) Libraries should not just stop for its human centered services, but also how to make it sustainable and also in line to achieve sustainable development goals. Libraries play a vital role in making the SDG successful. Thus, among the 17 goals of SDG, libraries can contribute actively in achieving one or more goals through its program and services.

(3) A visit to American Library Association (ALA) headquarter gave a wrap up on the importance of how library should be impactful and present in society. That way, libraries may have more abilities and bargaining power in making sure the sustainability of its role as a catalyst of change in society.
