It’s been a bit tired and still on jetlag, but it’s excited. There have been a bunch of excited lessons to learn. For me, there are two things I highlighted the most,
First, DISC session was so interesting. I enjoyed it a lot. Shirley has been very accommodating and helpful to help us understand the concept of DISC and clearly explain how it relates to our everyday interaction in the workplace. I see DISC is not only an approach to understand co workers better but it is also a way to learn first about ourself. Often, we tend to not have enough understanding about ourself and, at the same time we push ourself to understand others. DISC helps us to start from ‘the within’ to help us understand ‘the without’. Thanks Shirley!
Second, the visit to OCLC head quarter, highlights the spirit of collaboration and supports among libraries, as it appears on one of the wall in the head quarter office: “together we make breakthroughs possible”. It is actually on the main reason that underline the work of OCLC in knowledge and information sharing.
OHIO state university also highlight how the design of the study space, facilities, and services represent a thoughtful consideration of library for building more engagement to its users. At last, a visit to Westerville Public Library wrapped up the whole discussion of ‘Library Unbound: Open, Inclusive and Engaged. This library really thinks almost everything to create more engaged collection and services for its various users!. For instance, the ‘Drive-Thru’ service opens my eyes that it’s not only McDonald has this service, but library does too! and not only Amazon has pickup lockers, definitely, library does too! check these out:

Jen, a librarian in Westerville Library who gave the presentation and a tour for all of us, helped me understand better the concept of open, inclusive and engaged library. Thank you, Jen!
