Elizabeth D. Malabanan

My name is Dr. Elizabeth D. Malabanan, and I am the Director of Libraries at the University of Perpetual Help System Laguna, Philippines. Holding a Ph.D. from the same institution, I have had the privilege of contributing to the global education and library community in various capacities. As the first Filipino librarian to serve as a member of the American Library Association (ALA), I have embraced opportunities to lead and innovate in our field.

My career has been a journey of constant learning and growth, which is why I am particularly enthusiastic in participating in the Mortenson Associate Program. This program offers a unique platform to explore current issues and trends in the library field, and to engage with librarians implementing cutting-edge programs and services. I am eager to delve into this experience with specific learning goals in mind:

  1. Explore Advances in Digital and Print Collections
  2. Expand Knowledge in Information Technology
  3. Develop Marketing and Advocacy Strategies
  4. Foster International Professional Networking

Throughout my career, I have been actively involved in international accreditation bodies, including my recent certification as a member of the External Review Panelist (ERP). My leadership roles extend to serving on the Code of Conduct Committee of ALA and working as a library accreditor in the Philippines through the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities Commission on Accreditation (PACUCOA). Additionally, my membership in the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) RQUAT underscores my commitment to education accreditation.

Recognitions such as the Outstanding Academic Librarian of the Year by the Philippine Association of Academic/Research Librarians (PAARL) in 2018 and the Outstanding Academic Librarian in Binan City, Laguna in 2023 reflect my dedication to the field. As a prolific researcher with publications in Scopus-indexed journals, I continuously seek to contribute to academic knowledge.

My involvement in organizing international conferences further exemplifies my commitment to fostering global dialogue and collaboration. I believe that my participation in the Mortenson Associate Program will provide me with fresh insights and skills to continue advancing the library profession and education, both locally and internationally.
