The entire experience as a Mortenson Center Associate has been truly enlightening and have exceeded my expectations by far.
The endless possibilities that Technology brings into information services cannot be underestimated. Throughout the program, we were introduced to key concepts that have reshaped my outlook on information services, leadership, diversity, equity and inclusion as well as critical thinking and decision making.
Effective leadership and relationships with colleagues (teamwork) are the building blocks of any institution and this program has sharpened my knowledge and skills in this regard.
Innovations in libraries is critical to enhancing user engagement and value creation and therefore, libraries must strive to lead in this aspects. Libraries have moved beyond static sources of information to dynamic hubs of active engagement for innovation and creation.
I see myself more confident to lead and take up leadership roles, nationally and internationally; possessing a better understanding of diversity, equity and inclusion for information services delivery for different groups; appreciating and understanding the benefits of AI and Machine learning applied in libraries; and creating valuable products and services for libraries.
Although, I have learnt a lot, the period was quite short and I wished it could be extended so that my exposure goes beyond merely knowing to an in-depth understanding of the topics.
My gratitude goes to Clara Chu, Katie, Amani and Barbara of the Mortenson Center for the wonderful time. You are amazing teachers and friends and I cherish every moment. Thanks to all staff of UIUC and other institutions for making time to engage with us.
