The third week consisted of lectures on Monday followed by a tour to Chicago and Ohio! Although the travel time was long, with early morning departures and late night returns, it was a very exciting week. In addition to long-distance buses, we were able to experience Chicago’s local buses, Amtrak trains, and these are American transportation. In Ohio, we had the opportunity to visit OCLC, an institution that supports library operations and librarians all over the world. we were distant visitors, but the staff were very kind and open. I was deeply moved by the connection between people.
[Lecture, Discussion]

?A digital textbook developed by CITL.
It has different features from the Reserve Coursebook.
OER(Open Educational Resources), publishing and copyright

?It is well known that the cost of higher education in the United States has gone up. I was surprised to learn that it has risen by more than 1,000% in 40 years. In this lecture, with the aim of reducing the purchase cost of books for university students, a framework was presented, that was different from the existing publishing model. I asked at that time if publishers were affected something, but they didn’t believe this had any special effect on them.
Technical Services
?I understand the history and transformation of technical services. I learned that by constantly changing, enjoying and adapting to change, the role of technical services will also become dynamic (see below).
1960s ?Card Catalog to MARC
1980s ?AACR to RDA
1990s ?MARC21 to MARCXML

[Greeting]
Nancy Lensenmayer, Program Director of OCLC
Nancy from OCLC gave us a two-day tour of the various locations on 6/9 and 6/10. She has a diverse background and seems to embody the career of an American librarian. She is also a very friendly and thoughtful person. Maybe we will see her in Japan after the Corona pandemic!
