Third week at Mortenson

The week started with a visit to Oak Street Library; the off-site storage facility for the University of Illinois and sessions on e-text (with Milind Basole), OERs and Copyright (with Sarah Rachel Benson) and Technical Services with MJ Han.

This week was mostly spent outside Champaign-Urbana; in Chicago and Ohio.

In Chicago and Ohio, we did the following;

  • Session on Upshot Marketing with Liz Aviles
  • Tour of Harold Washington Public Library
  • Visit to University of Chicago Library and tour of the Regenstein and Joe and Mika Mansueto Libraries
  • Session with the Center for Digital Scholarship by Cecilia Smith
  • OCLC visit and tour
  • Visit and tour of the Ohio State University Library
  • Visit and tour of the Westerville Public Library

The visits exposed us to different programs, visions, directions from the various libraries we visited. The session on Upshot marketing showed us that librarians had transferable skills which could be applied in marketing and ignited ideas for marketing strategies within our individual libraries.

The tours showed us all the possibilities and potentials that libraries possessed and could become.
