Second week reflection

The second week was focused on tours, sessions, and discussions.

Tours: Allerton Park, Siebel Center for Design, iSchool, Main Library, Urbana Free Library

Sessions: Digital Strategies and Digital Preservation, blogging, professional development and action plan, Introduction to AI and Libraries

Siebel Center Tour : Design Thinking

When I went to the Siebel Center for Design, I was very impressed with the design concept.

The main goal of the Siebel Center for Design is to practice, model and teach design thinking, using human-centered design to reimagine our campus, community, and collective world.

Before going here, I was wondering about human-centered design. The human-centered design is a problem-solving approach that uses design thinking processes and tools to identify the unmet needs of a population in order to collaboratively and develop solutions.

iSchool Tour

On Wednesday, we went to an iSchool. The iSchool of Illinois is ranked #1 in library and information studies by the US News & World Report. They have master’s degree programs which divide into two majors.

One is library and information science which has 2 required courses, and 6 professional pathways. The other is information management which has 3 required courses, and 2 professional pathways.

Digital Strategies and Digital Preservation

We also learned about digital strategies and digital preservation. I am especially interested in research data service(RDS). RDS is a campus-wide program that provides the Illinois research community with the expertise, tools, and infrastructure necessary to manage and steward research data.

RDS maintains and operates the Illinois Data Bank, which is a public access repository for publishing research data from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

The sessions and tours were helpful to broaden my perspective and I was very impressed. Thank you Clara, Katie, Barbara, Amani, and 2022 mortenson associates.
