First week reflection

This year, 10 Mortenson Center associates participated in this program. We finally met each other on 25 May.

The theme of this program is ” Smart and Smarter : Leadership and Innovation in Libraries”

On the morning on 25 May, we introduced each other and made short introductions for 3 minutes, After lunch, we had a session for DISC Assessment.

DISC assessment are behavioral self-assessment tools based on the 1928 DISC emotional and behavioral theory of psychologist William Moulton Marston. The tools are designed to predict job performance.

During the lesson, I learned that in the workplace we need dominant, influential, stable, and conscientious people because each one has its strengths and weaknesses, and other styles manage to clearly complement. DISC assessment is really helpful to know about work style and what I usually focus on.

The Center for Innovation in Teaching & Learning (CITL)

On Friday, we went to the center for Innovation in Teaching & Learning(CITL).

CITL’s Innovation Spaces were designed to foster discovery, innovation, and problem solving to provide new opportunities. Three key ideas are that active learning is critical for knowledge retention and student growth, the design of a classroom impacts the teaching and learning that happens there, learning to use a variety of activities to support in-person and online learning.

The main vision will be far reaching and its foundation will be wholly student-centered. We are pleased there will be many 3D printers, laser cutting machines, and VR/AR to enhance learning.

One of the most impressive things is they are wholly student-centered. My institution also has a makerspace, Even though there are 3D Printers, lazer cutting machine, VR machines. the focus is still on the user’s needs. By maintaining this focus, we can improve the quality of the library’s service.
