Abraham Lincoln’s inspiration

A visit to Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield took place on Wednesday 29 May 2019 with Mortenson Associates.

Movies of World War II : An expert talks about some of favoured WWII themed movies and how they fare when put under the bright lights of history.

It started with an interesting presentation about historical events related to Abraham Lincoln and his family, related artifacts were exhibited, they were carefully preserved and handled.

The library hosts several activities for all society members among them:
History comes alive: Live performances, storytelling and moving ceremonies from Abraham Lincoln and a huge cast of historical characters of the 19th century.

In the great struggle: The greatest generation remembers WWII : the amazing stories of those who experienced the war through oral history, artifacts, and original poster art. Exhibition will be held with conjunction of special programs such as a discussion of an expert regarding the day which allies had prepared for the war against Germany in June 6, 1944. Curators of “ In This Great Struggle “ : The museum brings photos, audio, video, and artifacts in a display for the recollection of men and women who lived through the biggest war in history.

Superheroes Boot Camp Day: A free family event with partnership with the Illinois State Military Museum, this event offers climbing and racing activities, map reading, a bounce house obstacle course, and more. Participants are encouraged to wear their favorite superhero costume.

Victory Garden for Kids: Kids discover the importance of VICTORY gardens and get the chance to create a mini- victory garden to take home with them.

Rosie the Riveter: Kids will learn about the WWII icon of women in the workplace, and discover many roles women played during the war through games and activities.

These activities can be a good inspiration for national and public libraries. Even school libraries can engage and take a part in these activities by cooperation and coordination with teachers and other libraries for enrichment of services and activities provided for students.
