Finishing the Mortenson center Associates program for a month…

 

How to come to the Mortenson program;

The opportunity to apply for the Mortenson associates program was the recommendation of Hyun Joo Kim, who worked in the same division. She was selected for this program in 2016 and I  was able to listen to the whole story about it.

After that, I was fortunate enough to be able to participate in the 2018 mortenson associate program, and I still cannot believe that today is the end of the program.

 

My first impression of Illinois;

On the first day of my arrival in Illinois, I cannot forget the moment I first met at the airport with  Catalina who has beautiful smile and my roommate Nehad and Nkoyo.

I am so sad that I could not enjoyed the first week because of the jetlag. Now, I totally adjust my body and perfectly enjoy the life of illinois. I cannot believe that I’m going back to Korea.

 

My goals and progress in learning at the Mortenson Center;

Participating in this program, I wanted to build a global librarian network and wanted to learn about the latest trends about library.

We had lots of workshop and seminar like as metadata, leadership, digitalization and toured a variety of libraries academic, public, school libraries. We also visited ALA, OCLC.

The most interest thing was DiSC Workshop. It was a fun workshop to learn about my style at the workplace and how to get along with colleagues and boss with different type.

 

Also, I got a chance to meet and got along with 9 associates(8countries) and librarians of other institution and learned the latest global trend in field of library and figure out the way to improve the library services.

Especially, I could learned the service of Maker space and experienced the IT devices like as 3D printer, VR game at the Youth Media(Chicago public library), TechHub, IDEA lab(Grainger Engineering library)

 

At the SILL Workshop, I could learn how to solve the problem though the action plan template.

It was a good opportunity to take concrete action to think about what we were doing and what is the problem we have and systematically solving the problem step by step through the SILL workshop by Director Clara.

 

Last impression;

Finally, I would like to thank to Clara who led the whole program. I think Clara, who is always passionate and active, is a true leader.

I am also very grateful to Jean and Catalina for preparing and working on us for everything. You guys are very kind!!

It seems to me that the time of one month has gone too fast.

Thank you for 9 associates who have programmed together for a month.
