On June 13, we went to visit the Westerville Public Library.
Kristin michel’s presentation and library tour were a wonderful experience and we were able to experience very creative programs and various services.
About Westerville Public Library
Since 1930, the library has represented the belief that the best service is a reflection of its customers’ wishes. The library is an important part of the past, an integral part of the present and an essential part of Westerville’s future.
As a school district library, service area includes Westerville, parts of Columbus and southern Delaware County.
All Ohio residents are welcome to apply for a library card.
Special Services
1. Pick up window
You can pick up your reserved materials without leaving the comfort of your car.
And you can return books for 24 hours, and get free dog biscuits if you want.
It is a user-friendly service if you think about the process of the circulation; Driving a car to the parking lot, holding a baby, going into the library, borrowing books and going back to the car.
2. Home deliveries
If you are uncomfortable or unable to visit the library for a while, it is a service that librarians deliver materials, tablets, and program kits directly to users.
For students, teachers, and staff, it provides services to deliver books everyday in Westerville City School District(27 schools).
3. Book bike
It is a service that people can chat with librarians and pick up a book through book bike while at the farmers market, the park, the swimming pool, the playground…
They get ideas from bicycle on ice cream, and kids like to get in touch with the trucks, so they make the Book Bike to promote literacy, an active lifestyle&lifelong learning.
Impression
It was a pleasure to meet a variety of creative services in Westerville Public Library. It was impressive to continue thinking and implementing innovative ideas for children and citizens.
Especially, the service to deliver the books to the users every day is not easy, but I was surprised that it was proceeding steadily.
I also think the “pick up window” service, like MacDonald or Starbucks’s Drive-Thru, that can borrow books without getting out of the car, is a great idea.
It was a good experience to learn much about the efforts and enthusiasm of the librarians of the Westerville Public Library.
