According to the “Libraries as Global leaders : Sustainable Development“ workshop I’m happy to share with you our plan in Omani libraries association to play our role according to UN 2030 agenda. We try to focus on goal number four “Quality Education “ and the association will share all that activities with Ministry of Education. So, we start with a meeting was held by the Oman libraries Association on Wednesday 29 March 2017 at the Main Library of Sultan Qaboos University / Muscat in attendance of a notable number of its Board of Directors and General Assembly members.
Several topics, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) , were discussed in that meeting.
The meeting objectives were:
– To define the United Nations 2030 agenda.
– To define the role of libraries in the United Nations 2030 agenda.
– To introduce the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The Chairman of Oman Libraries Association reviewed the general principles and objectives of (SDGs). He noted the important role that libraries should play in accordance with UN 2030 agenda.
The effective current role of libraries in supporting this agenda along with other aspects that still need to be carried out, were disclosed as well.
It was agreed that there would be a number of programs and workshops aimed at raising awareness of the UN 2030 agenda and the anticipated role of the libraries to achieve it, and that librarians themselves would then carry out a plan to raise awareness in their own geographical areas.
